At Amey, we employ several Reservists and ex-regulars with Reservist liability, and we're proud of the work they do. We recognise the brilliant transferable skills they bring to the table from their military involvement; like leadership, project management and communications, and all of our Reservists work in roles where these skills can shine through.
Robert Zalewski, one of our Mobile Authorised Persons in our Regional Prime Central contract, is one of our Reservists who we have recently supported as he prepares to embark on a six month tour in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Robert said “Having spent 28 years in the Royal Engineers, finishing as a Garrison Engineer at RAF Coningsby, I left the Army in 2014 and joined the Reserves, currently in the rank of Major. I joined Amey in 2015 and found that the knowledge and skills I gained in the military gave me a real insight into the operational and practical needs of the customer.”
Robert’s tour is in support of the current NATO mission in Afghanistan ‘Operation Resolute Support’ and he has been busy preparing for his deployment and said; “I have been extremely grateful for the support Amey has provided over the last 4 years which has allowed me to undertake numerous training opportunities on the MOD Estate, training both regular and reserve soldiers in all aspects of electrical infrastructure. My Manager’s support has been invaluable and has helped to remove any additional ‘employment’ concerns I had which has definitely made things a lot easier for me and my family.”
As part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, which commits to support our Armed Forces community, Amey ensures that Reservists duties are respected, promoted and allow employees to conduct Reserve Service on top of their statutory annual leave allowance
