Amey Defence housing team win again at the Energy Efficiency Awards!

Amey Housing Defence teams at Trenchard Park in Bordon, Hampshire have won the Large Scale Project of the Year Award at the South East Energy Efficiency Awards for successfully improving the thermal values of some of the Ministry of Defence’s hardest to treat properties, whist improving the standard of living for some of the UK’s military personnel and their families.

The major refurbishment programme involving 73 Service Family properties, saw the old and ageing properties fitted with external wall insulation along with further efficiency measures which included new roofing, loft insulation and new double glazed doors and windows.

The scheme had a substantial impact in improving energy performance ratings of all 73 properties, helping occupants reduce their fuel bills, cut carbon emissions and improve the appearance of their homes. The work was completed to a 100% compliance pass rate, despite encountering challenges along the way including Asbestos removal and managing roosting bats.

The project was funded by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), with supporting capital from YES Energy Solutions utilising the Energy Company Obligation scheme. Amey project managed the scheme, working with local supply chain partners, Synergize Ltd, with YES Energy Solutions completing compliance procedures and undertaking technical monitoring

Duncan McCombie, CEO of YES Energy Solutions, said: "This project supported hard working Ministry of Defence personnel, ensuring that they have warm comfortable homes for their families, and we are delighted that it has been recognised by this award."

Tim Redfern, Amey’s Director of Defence added “This is a great achievement for all involved including our colleagues in the DIO and Yes Energy Solutions. We recognise the huge positive impact that this work has on Service personnel and their families in that it can transform their experience of living in Service Families Accommodation.  We are committed to working with DIO to modernise the estate right across the UK and I am delighted that we were able to mark another milestone in this programme.”

Earlier this year, Amey received a ‘Highly Commended’ in the Large Scale Project category for a similar refurbishment project where 123 Service family homes were refurbished in Plymouth, Devon. Winning these awards provides us with recognition for the excellent work Amey is doing in implementing energy efficiency schemes into projects and helps to encourage best practice within the Energy Industry as it works to improve the UK’s housing stock
