RAF Northolt is used by both military and civilian aircraft and is home to Units from all three Armed Services and the Ministry of Defence and is located within our Regional Prime South East contract.
As you can imagine, the on-site gymnasium is a busy and well-used facility but for those needing access to the sites rehabilitation services, the only way to access the rehabilitation centre was via a steep and dark flight of stairs – making access extremely awkward for those experiencing injuries.
The Unit were keen to find a solution and identified a disused office area that would be a perfect place for the physiotherapists to work from. The work was carried out by the sites tier one contractor Antac. Amey Site Manager, Kevin Davies along with Amey Delivery Manager Andrew Dobson managed the project. They worked closely with DIO’s Estate Facilities Manager (EFM), Rajesh Macwan, ensuring the new layout, suspended ceiling, new flooring, electrical work and decoration work was completed according to schedule and to a high standard.
Earlier this month, Amey and DIO handed the completed project over, on time and to budget, and were delighted to be asked to attend the opening of the new facility which was formally opened by Lady Hiller, wife of the Chief of The Air Staff, and supported by Air Vice-Marshal, The Honourable David Murray, Controller of the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) and the Station Commander.
Flt Lt Kyle Evans BSc (Hons) RAF, was extremely pleased with how the project was delivered and said “This was a jointly funded project by RAF Northolt and the RAFBF that will directly contribute to the morale and wellbeing of the RAF family by providing critical rehabilitation services to aid the recovery of injured personnel. The opening ceremony highlighted the station’s continuing strong relationship with the RAFBF and recognised their valued contribution to this project.”
