Amey Defence teams, in partnership with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in our Regional Prime South East contract, recently completed a project to provide brand new kennels for the Military Working Dogs (MWD) Section at RAF Benson in South Oxfordshire.
All dogs in the RAF hold a rank and service number and are an essential part of operations in search and security so it’s vital that they are housed in an appropriate environment to keep them healthy and secure.
The new kennels provide a much improved standard of accommodation, are easy to maintain and designed to create a controlled temperature environment to cater for extremes in hot and cold weather. Noise reduction insulation has also been placed between each kennel which will keep any stress caused by potential noisy canine neighbours to a minimum.
Since the dogs have moved into their new kennels, it has been noted by the Vet and the dog handlers that there has been a noticeable difference to the dogs’ behaviour and they are calmer and much more relaxed. They seem really happy with their new homes and we were pleased to hear that the Vet has suggested that the new kennels are used as a blue print for all MOD MWD kennels in the future.
Wing Commander Victoria McFadden, OC Base Support Wing, RAF Benson was absolutely delighted with the works and said “We are all really pleased with the new kennels. The Vet has reported that the dogs have settled in well are working much more effectively.”
